DOES YOUR INDEPENDENT PRACTICE OFFER PRE-REGISTRATION POSITIONS FOR OPTOMETRY STUDENTS OR TRAINEE POSITIONS FOR DISPENSING OPTICIANS?
The Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO) are committed to the future of the Independent Sector and we are encouraging all Independent Practitioners offering placements to be readily identified by students looking for such positions. We have therefore created a Register for Independent Practices offering placements.
It is apparent to AIO discussions with students, that the majority would favour joining the Independent sector – but most end up working for the Corporates. Once students have started on the multiples employment/ franchise route it appears difficult for them to pull out and enter Independent practice.
They need help. Can you offer a pre-registration or trainee Dispensing Optician placement, or even some holiday or Saturday work experience? Providing this opportunity now may lead to a new Optometrist or Dispensing Optician for your practice in the future.
The AIO is encouraging all Independent practices to consider offering placements and has created a list, freely available to students and the profession, of the practice offering placements to pre-registration students and or trainee Dispensing Opticians or holiday work experience
